sec 2s, its Eileen here:) first time blogging on your blog so you all might find it a little weird( ps. so do i) i just want to do a little round up for camp before the debrief on wednesday (2.30pm, Block A) and at the same time, post some questions for you to include on your reflections:)
hmm.. kenneth and i saw that you all put in alot of effort before tha camp started. seeing all of you go through the camp prep and teaching the sec 1s. the entire 25th saw u all working so hard nad we thought that your standard during the camp would be a good one.
however, i feel that you guys have not performed up to your standards during the camp. that is the reason why we pushed you all so hard during lunch and stand by bunk. we wanted to bring out the best in you. we wanted you all to put yourself aside and focus on your batch, on what you can do for your batchmates, and see how you all unite. yet we did not see it in all of you. not yet. and we're really disappointed.
let me assimilate the content of the entire camp and explain okaes? cause i want all of you to see that it wasnt all for nothing. those who saw our efforts, thank you! those who haven saw it yet, NOW'S THE TIME:)
the objective of the camp was for you all to be confident, clear leaders who can plan and execute activities. but i have to say that not all of you have reached the desired outcome yet. why? let's start from the sec 2 activity that you guys planned.
before you all started, i have mentioned that this activity was for you all to show that you all have to ability to execute what you have planned. you guys did a fantastic job planning for the activity. but when it came to the execution, it was confusing. it was like you all were playing with the sec 1s, enjoying it even more than they did. yet at the end of the day, when we asked the sec 1s, they only said they had fun, but did they reap any values from you all? u all should rethink the way you executed the event. what went wrong? was it the briefing which was not clear enough, or was it that you guys forgot what you were briefed to do? i said clearly that it was to be strict, not that you cannot have fun, but the objectives to be met were to be kept constantly in your mind. did you all listen, or did you just hear?
then, lunch. some of you broke down. and cried. kelly felt sad for your batch. she felt that you all were not performing up to your standards. and i agree. you are not showing that you can, but telling. what is the use of saying but not acting upon what you said? what about all those promises? some were pulled aside. agnes, gavin, zhiye, xinwei and a few others. do you all know what was happening to them while you all where being drilled by weiqi, joan and daron?
gavin was scolded and yelled at. by izwan. you all should have asked him how he felt. zhiye was made to do knuckle pumping without the support of his thumbs. do you know how he felt then? he was trembling, shaking, crying and his veins were surfacing, yet he stayed strong. if it were you, can you do it? agnes was standing next to him, and was forced to look upon what he was doing. and her eyes were welling up with tears yet she could do nothing. xinwei was behind her, dirlled by izwan. shoutings continued. questions forced upon him. some were even unreasonable (if you dont believe me, ask him) yet he took it all. if it were you, can you do the same?
and yes, i admit that i cried. i could take it no more. the night before, we had a debrief with you all. then you all went to sleep. i spent the entire night at the basketball court thinking about what you all said, reflecting about what you all did during the camp and where kenneth and i went wrong. yet until 5.15am, i still did not have the answer. why? i asked myself. but where was the answer? it was in each and everyone of you. i kept my promise to some of you. i woke you all up at 5.30am and prepared breakfast for you all ( with the help of the food comm). and since i come to this, i just want to emphasize something: PROMISES ARE NOT MEANT TO BE BROKEN. THEY ARE MEANT TO BE KEPT. remember. do not make empty promises. SORRIES are meant to be said only once. yet how many sorries did i receive during the camp? every sorry said to kenneth and i meant this : sorry you did not do your job as a sec 2 coord. try harder.
stand by bunk. i know that to some of you, it was pure torture. u were worried about it. but believe me, it is better to go through it as a camper than as an instructor. believe me, you wont understand it now but you will soon. it was long. and many broke down and cried. but let me tell you all, it is supposed to push you all. and u all survived it right? despite all the tears and punishments. yes, we are unreasonable at times. why? we wanted to see if you all learnt to pout your emotions aside. and think with your head, nt your heart. we wanted to bring out the best in you. why is it that we say that because the time on the clock dont match, then we punished you all? it is not because we wanted to humiliate you, but we want to see a true leader withstand all the pressure and show the inner strength. to overcome the humiliation and rise to be the best. why is that we know the room can never be clean yet punish you all? again, its the same reason.
BE THE BEST THAT YOU CAN BE. its not about who you were before, or then, but who you will be after that. never think that you are inferior to the rest of your batchmates, because there is a reason why you are one of them too.
THINK SEC 2s. there's still time after the camp to think dont brush everything off and forget it. beacuse if you did, then it shows that you haven grew. not yet. reflect about what i write here okaes?
and we can discuss more during the debrief. do remember to wear half uni. justin and zhiye has a plan for you all!
